Abstract
This study used data from 292 high school students ultimately out of the convenience sampling of 300 students from high schools educating 1,000 or more students located in the Incheon Metropolitan City in 2013 to analyze the relationship between degrees of sport activities and life quality of high school students. The research tool was a questionnaire, data were processed with the PASW 21.0 program, the hypothesis verification was performed at p<.05 with x2, t-test, and ANOVA, and Scheffe-test was employed for post-test. The results from the analysis are as follows. First, as for degrees of sport activities due to the subjects’ general characteristics, differences were found in number of weekly participation, time spent for 1 session, duration of participation between genders, and in number of weekly participation and duration of participation among graders. That is to say, as for genders,male students engaged themselves more in sport activities than their female counterparts, and as for graders, the degree of sport activity participation was higher in second, first, and third graders in that order.Second, as for life quality based on general characteristics with respect to genders, the male students had high life quality in the areas of physical health and social relation, and the female students in the environmental and psychological areas, while the second graders among other graders showed significant differences as they had high life quality in the areas of physical health, social relation, and psychology except for the environmental area. Third, as a result of the analysis of the relationship between sport activities and life quality,there turned out to be significant differences in that the students recognized their life quality as high when the number of participation exceeded 4 times, the time spent for a session was 1∼less than 2 hours, and as for the duration of participation, they participated in the physical area for 5 or more years, in the environmental area for 1∼less than 3 years, and in the social and psychological areas for 3~less than 5 years. Thus, adolescents’ life quality can be promoted if sustainable long-term sport environments are created in terms of novel sport programs to which adolescents can approach with joy and interest in their everyday life.
