Abstract
This research was carried out in order to survey the publicness appearing inJapanese ancient history. Using the analytic model for “comparative publicness”,it was aimed to achieve a preliminary research for a comparison between SouthKorea and Japan. This research model consists of a “microseismic analysis” anda “macroscopic reflection.” The objects of the former are ① the level of placeor group , ② the content of a preferential common good, ③ the subject whichrealizes publicness, ④ the beneficiary of publicness, ⑤ the aspect of the placeof public opinion, ⑥ the method of pursuing public benefit, ⑦ practice virtueand ⑧ justification logic. The objects of the latter are ① factors which destroypublicness or makes it retreat, ② factors which extend or develop publicnessand ③correlation which exists between the change of publicness and the fate ofa community. The representative momentum of publicness in ancient Japan canbe seen in three points. The folk religion in village communities in the Yayoiperiod, the ideology of a myth system in the Yamato period, and finally theritsuryo codes of the Nara period. When the system of the ritsuryo codesdeclined during the Heian period, however, the publicness of aristocratic societyreceded and the leadership of the age moved from the aristocrat class to thesamurai class.
