- Abstract
- The old section of Seongnam City is considered as the first version of a new town of Korea with urban master plan. However, a uniform grid-road system was introduced without regarding to topographical features. Streets and pedestrian ways of the orthogonal grid system has produced many spots with different levels caused by sloped topography during the process of expanding road network for increased volumes of traffic. So far, along the contact areas of site and the road, a lot of non-continuous planes have been resulted. Studying on the typological characteristics for non-continuous planes of the road will offer new accessibilities such as emergency path to every urban areas and this will also play important role for sustaining placeness of all community within the city. Thus, the non-continuous planes need to have some qualitative and quantitative architectural improvement for the day-to-day citizens' lives. In conclusion, this study suggests a possibility of urban regeneration through the architectural proposal by taking advantage of the non-continuous planes.
