Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to determine the ontological basis of philosophical counseling. In my point of view, the ontological basis of philosophical counseling is our Dasein as a Flesh/Body in sofar as it is true that in philosophical counseling each and every client should be regarded as an individual person. My arguments can be summarized as follows:1. The ultimate purpose of philosophical counseling is to consolidate and promote individuality of clients. 2. In order to carry out this purpose, philosophical counselors should try to understand the existential situation of clients in terms of power relation among social factors. 3. But this does not mean that ethics is irrelevant to philosophical counseling. The contrary is rather to be supposed: Since a persons’s individuality presupposes a fellowship with others, a client’s individuality can be neither consolidated nor even promoted if he remains unable to establish an ethical relationship with others.
