Abstract
The objective of this study aims to find the influence of participation of elementary school student trainees in indirect sparring of Taekwondo on attention-concentration-related brain wave. The object of the study was the elementary school students whose ages are 11 to 13 and the random assignment was implemented into the exercise group of 15 members and the control group of 15 members, and the exercise group performed the indirect sparring for 60 minutes each time with frequency of 3 times a week during 12 weeks and RPE 11-13 of strength was given at 1 to 3 level of training intensity. The brain waves which are related with the concentration such as Theta wave, SMR wave, Low Beta wave, Beta wave and High Beta wave were measured for 5 minutes according to unipolr lead method by attaching the electrodes onto Fz and Cz parts of the objects that are frontal lobe of brain that is used much for measuring concentration as the pretest. As the results of this study, the activity of SMR wave that is related with the concentration showed the significant increase in the exercise group after the participation in indirect sparring training and the activities of Theta and High Beta waves that are related with attention deficit and conduct disorder showed the significant decrease in the exercise group. And, the activities of Low Beta and Beta waves that are related with the stress showed the significant decrease in the exercise group. Based on above results, it can be recognized that the participation of elementary school student trainees in indirect sparring is effective for the improvement of concentration-related brain waves and it is considered that such participation in the exercise would be helpful for the improvement of concentration, release of stress and improvement of attention.
