Abstract
This study focuses on the fact that people concerns on health care problems and health costs rise up sharply among the elderly people. We come to the conclusion that it can be a preventive and inexpensive measure to introduce the health care system into housing units from hospitals using health-related IT technologies. It is called telehealth monitoring system so to speak in medical terms. Telehealth works very efficiently in the advanced countries. Hence, this research is to carry out case studies in order to find out how it works through the system and how the residents cope actively with the changing circumstances in the specific spaces, namely homes, streets, and the neighborhood. Two case studies are chosen in USA, community-based and estate-based. One is the Mckiz Aware Community, which is located in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and the other is the Oatfield Estate, which is located in Milwaukie, Clackama County, Oregon. Mckiz Aware Community is a project for the development of a community of smart cottages in 10 acres of the 12 block area, including Blueroof Research Cottage, Independence Park, Blueroof Tech Center, Community Center, etc. All of Blueroof homes built in the Zone will be engineered homes that include Sun Clean windows, tankless hot water system, ZigBee and Wi-Max wireless network coverage of the neighborhood and home automation controller. On the other hand, Oatfield Estate is a elder care community in 6.6 acre campus, providing C.A.R.E. system to every residents. The system is designed to provide an assistive technololy system that applies an alert, ongoing monitoring and real-time feedback to support the residents and to assist the team member. The software transforms information from placed sensors into real-time insight to health and wellbeing. Thorough indepth analysis of the case studies enables us to indicate that planning space is not limited to the home itself but to the public space and the neighborhood. It also shows that space network should be combined with health-related IT technologies for the safer, healthier, and happier living environment.
