- Abstract
- In this study, we fabricated an integrated polystyrene (PS) microdevice for adhering Escherichia coli O157:H7 by exploiting the pristine PS surface as a pre-concentration step and subsequent amplification using a continuous flow polymerase chain reaction (CF-PCR) for rapid on-site detection. The PS surface, which contained styrene groups, could adhere to bacteria via electrostatic and van der Waals interactions. Subsequently, integration of pre-concentration and amplification using CF-PCR on the PS microdevice was demonstrated for rapid bacterial detection. The introduced method can be an easy-to-use platform for the rapid and simple detection of foodborne pathogens in real samples.
