- Abstract
- BACKGROUND: This study examined the effects of acute aerobic and anaerobic exercise on blood derivatives of reactive oxygen metabolites (d-ROM), biological antioxidant potential (BAP), glucose, and lactate levels. METHODS: Thirty-eight participants without any medical problems were recruited for this study were assigned randomly into two groups; AEG (aerobic exercise group, N.=18) characteristic showed age 24.77 +/- 0.94 years, height 173.11 +/- 1.90 cm, body weight 69.24 +/- 4.84 kg, %body fat 15.87 +/- 2.26 and ANG (anaerobic exercise group, N.=20) age 23.80 +/- 0.89 years, height 172.40 +/- 5.00 cm, weight 67.17 +/- 2.88 kg, %body fat 14.11 +/- 4.14. The blood samples were obtained three times from fingertip capillaries at rest, immediately after exercise (IAE), and 30 minutes of recovery (R30) in aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise, respectively. The blood samples were analyzed for d-ROM, BAP, glucose and lactate levels. RESULTS: Anaerobic exercise had significantly high d-ROM level at IAE compared to aerobic exercise, and anaerobic exercise had significantly high BAP and glucose levels at R30 compared to aerobic exercise. Blood lactate levels at IAE and R30 were significantly high in anaerobic exercise compared to aerobic exercise. CONCLUSIONS: To summarize, two types of exercise had positive effect on d-ROM, BAP glucose levels, and facilitating lactate levels. In particular, anaerobic exercise had effective influence on d-ROM, BAP, glucose levels and facilitating lactate levels.
