Abstract
As the Hanbok market has diversified and grown with the recent trend of New Hanbok, the number of new entrants has increased. Concurrently, there has been a growing need for education that reflects the unique characteristics of Hanbok within fashion business theory to strengthen the business capabilities of workers in the Hanbok industry. This study examined the case of curriculum development and applications for the “2019 Korean Hanbok Business Education,” which was hosted by the Hanbok Advancement Center and managed by the Korean Society of Costume. A combination of literature reviews, expert interviews, student surveys, and interview methods were used for each phase of curriculum development, implementation, satisfaction surveys, and feedback. The study aimed to determine the academic significance of Hanbok business education and to derive practical insights that could be directly used in future education to nurture the Hanbok business workforce. There was a high level of competition for enrollment, and attendance was high overall, confirming that demand for such education is substantial. The fact that 53% of the students were preparing for business indicates that the market is growing. The results of the survey regarding the general contents of the curriculum and individual classes showed an overall high level of satisfaction. However, the participant comments indicated that it was difficult to derive insights that they could apply directly to small businesses.
