- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of long-term Taekwondo Participation on blood glucose, insulin, c-reactive protein(CRP), homeostasis model assessment-estimated insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index, and body-composition in obese male college students. The subjects of study were total of 14 obese university students, aged 21-25 years, who were enrolled in a university in Gyeonggi-do province, and were classified into Taekwondo(n=5) and control group(n=9). Taekwondo group conducted basic kick, poomsae, and kyorugi three times a week for 12 weeks while the control group was allowed to perform everyday life. Body composition measurements and blood sampling were performed at 0 week, 12 weeks. As a results, it is confirmed that long-term Taekwondo participation was effective in improving insulin function by significantly decreasing insulin levels. Also, long-term Taekwondo participation was decrease body weight, and was increase lean mass. In conclusion, Taekwondo participation was investigated to be beneficial for the improvement of obesity and metabolic syndrome by confirming that it is effective for improving the insulin levels and body composition.
