Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the behavioral characteristics and expenses of visitors to the World Taekwondo Hanmadang and to estimate the economic value of the World Taekwondo Hanmadang. The survey was conducted by selecting 280 contestants, officials and visitors of the 2018 World Taekwondo Hanmadang as the purpose collection method. Descriptive analysis of demographic characteristics, visitor behavior characteristics and expenses was conducted using the SPSS 21.0 program. The study has gained the following results: First, it was revealed that the primary purpose of visitors to the World Taekwondo Hanmadang was to participate in the contest and that experienced participants revisited the World Taekwondo Hanmadang. It was found that the information of the event was obtained through the leader of the organization (team) and that at least seven people accompanied by the leader were acting as a group during the competition. Second, the expenses for visitors to the World Taekwondo Hanmadang increased relatively due to the speciality held in Jeju Island, not inland. Other spending on lodging, food expenses, transportation, and other expenses was similar to the competition held inland. Third, the estimated economic value of the World Taekwondo Hanmadang is 1.55 billion won, and the economic value will be higher when the audience is considered.
