Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of 12 weeks Taekwondo training on body-composition, blood irisin, adiponectin, and lipids levels in obese college students. The subjects of study were total of 16 obese university students, aged 21-29 years, who were enrolled in a university in Gyeonggi-do province, and were classified into Taekwondo training(n=6) and control group(n=10). Taekwondo training group conducted basic kick, poomsae, and kyorugi three times a week for 12 weeks while the control group was allowed to perform everyday life. Body composition measurements and blood sampling were performed at 0 week, 8 weeks, 12 weeks. The results of this study were as follows. First, it is confirmed that 12 weeks Taekwondo training was effective in improving body composition by decreasing body weight. Second, 12 weeks Taekwondo training was effective in improving cardiovascular risk factors by improving lipids such as total cholesterol, low-density cholesterol high-density cholesterol. Third, this study confirmed that 12 weeks Taekwondo training decreases irisin in the blood. In conclusion, 12 weeks Taekwondo training investigated to be beneficial for the improvement of obesity and cardiovascular disease by confirming that it is effective for improving the lipid concentration and loss of body.
