Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that influence academic self-efficacy based on personal variables, personal traits, and learning approaches in a medical school. The data were collected from 228 medical students who agreed to participate in the study. The Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, NEOFFI( Neuroticism Extraversion Openness to experience- Five Factor Inventory), and R-SPQ-2F(Revised Two Factor Study Process Questionnaire) were used for this study. The data were analyzed by the methods of t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The academic self-efficacy of the 2nd grade was the highest and female students were found to be more neurotic, and male students were found to be more conscientious. Neuroticism, deep learning approach, surface learning approach, conscientiousness, grade level, and extraversion were found to be the significantly influential variables on academic self-efficacy. The results of this study will help medical schools in their plans to improve the level of self-efficacy for the happiness and successful life in a medical school including improvement of instruction and evaluation strategies to decrease surface learning.
