Abstract
This paper investigates how the optimal strategy of the monopolistic intermediary platform affects the competition among sellers, where sellers compete in a horizontally differentiated market. When the products are highly differentiated and sellers are local monopolies, the platform may induce price competition by enlarging the buyer base. In this case, the platform charges lower platform fee for the seller creating higher interaction value. Under certain conditions, exclusion of a seller can be the optimal strategy.
