- Abstract
- The present study examines Daisotoku Komagaku. Daisotoku is categorized as Komagaku perceived as a dance in the style of the Korean Peninsula, where it originated. In addition, researchers have raised the possibility that Daisotoku is related to Sogdia (粟特) due to the characteristics of the masks, and because its Japanese pronunciation sokutoku resembles ‘Sogdia’. Regions of the Korean Peninsula, Goguryeo and Balhae, which are as areas from where Daisotoku was introduced, had close relations with Sogdia. That Daisotoku originated from Sogdia, although impossible to categorically state so. The present study is expected to help further the relationship of Daisotoku with Sogdia.
