- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Balance Walking PT chair exercise on body composition, health-related fitness and blood lipid in middle-aged obese women. The experiment’s subjects were randomly selected and divided into two groups: the control group (n=10) and the exercise group (n=12). The exercise group performed a 60-minute Balance Walking PT chair exercise program 3 times a week for 12 weeks. The control group only performed their regular daily activities. In order to analyze collected data, Repeated measures ANOVA was used to analyze the difference according to the group and the exercise period. As results of this study, the Balance Walking PT chair exercise significantly decreased weight, BMI, body fat percentage, body fat mass, waist circumference, and WHR in the body composition compared to the control group. And In the health-related fitness, muscle strength and muscle endurance, and flexibility were further increased in the exercise group than those in control group. The Balance Walking PT chair exercise is down-regulated concentration of total cholesterol and TC, TG, LDL-C as well as up-regulated HDL-C levels in the blood. As a result, the Balance Walking PT chair exercise program is an effective way to treat obesity in middle-aged obese women and is thought to have a positive effect on the risk factors that can cause metabolic chronic diseases related to obesity.
