- Abstract
- The aim of this study is to examine the mediating effect of appearance satisfaction on the relationship between appearance management behavior and psychological well-being, as well as the moderated mediating effect of self- esteem on appearance satisfaction and psychological well-being. For this three-wave study data were collected from 406 employees working in beauty shops located in the metropolitan area. Analysis of the proposed hypothesis was performed using the PROCESS macro for SPSS. According to the results, (a) appearance satisfaction mediates the positive relationship between appearance management behavior and psychological well-being and (b) self-esteem moderates the indirect effect of appearance management behavior and psychological well-being through appearance satisfaction, such that a stronger indirect effect is observed in people with higher self-esteem compared to those with lower self-esteem. Discussion of the theoretical and practical implications of the finding is provided.
