Abstract
Microbial infections are becoming global threats to human health by their devastating behavior. To control these infections, protein and genome-level analysis is more important than conventional analysis. In this regard, mass spectrometry (MS) is emerging as an outstanding analytical technique for proteomic studies. Microbial species and different strains can be easily identified by advancements in MS-based techniques. However, microbial proteomic analysis is significant in the clinical diagnosis of several infectious diseases. MS-based approaches are the gold standards in the field of infectious diseases due to their clinical translation capabilities. Progressive advancements in MS make it convenient for potential analysis of each kind of microbial pathogen. In this chapter, we review recent advances in MS-based techniques for microbial proteome analysis. Furthermore, the current chapter discusses the challenges and future directions of microbial proteomic analysis using MS techniques. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
