Abstract
This study aims to analyze the Hanbok controversy and anti-Chinese sentiment surrounding Shining Nikki using text mining. Cultural conflicts between countries are sometimes expressed as animosity and hatred toward the other people, and sometimes have a considerable influence on the economic activities of companies. In particular, it is worth noting that antipathy toward China is having a considerable ripple effect on popular culture and the cultural industry as a whole. After Paper Games, the producer of Shining Nikki, withdrew from the Korean market in 2020, the cultural conflict between Korea and China continues. The media and researchers investigated the conflicts between Korea and China in various cultural fields such as traditional culture, drama, games, sports, etc. The term ‘process’ is used. They also raise their voices that China is invading Korean culture and distorting history. Here, it is worth noting that newspapers and broadcasters create anti-Chinese and hate-Chinese sentiments by writing articles without checking the truth or not, and furthermore, spreading ‘online nationalism’. Focusing on this phenomenon, we will examine the specific aspects of the Hanbok controversy and anti-Chinese sentiment. In addition, we try to find alternatives to overcome anti-Chinese sentiment.
