Abstract
In case of conventional MMORPG(Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games), PC-based service has been provided, hence it has been possible to accommodate the generated data with RDBMS- based database. However, due to the advent and performance development of smart device, it has become possible to provide MMORPG service in various devices. And the development scale of MMORPG has been increasing. Accordingly, the amount of generated data has been rapidly increasing. Therefore, technology enabling big data to be processed is required. However, conventional MMORPG is developed on the basis of RDBMS. So, there is a limit to the amount of data. And the tables of RDBMS form a complicated relation when managing data and changing a database structure in the update of new contents. Therefore, it is difficult to establish a relation in consideration of association with other table in adding a new table. In order to make up for these weak points of RDBMS, this paper designed and implemented game data as column family by using cloud database-based Cassandra database in MMORPG. Besides, in order to prove the performance of cloud database applied to MMORPG, a new scenario was created according to game play tendency. And in order to request read and write operation from database according to each scenario, data packet was designed, and then the performance of cloud database was analyzed. As a result, it was possible to find that an average processing speed was improved by approximately 24% in comparison with conventional RDBMS. © 2016 International Information Institute.
