Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of acute aerobic and resistance exercise on blood antioxidant systems and glucose, lactate levels. Nineteen male without any medical problems were divided into aerobic exercise group(AE group, n=9) and resistance exercise group(RE group, n=10). Before this experiment, participants performed body composition test, graded exercise test and one repetition maximum test. The participants performed aerobic exercise and resistance exercise at the same exercise intensity and time. Blood samples from a fingertip were collected three times: at rest, immediately after exercise, and 30 minutes of recovery. Measured variables were the derivatives of reactive oxygen metabolites(d-ROM), biological antioxidant potential(BAP), lactate, and glucose levels. Statistical analysis used the two-way repeated measures ANOVA and Tukey's method for post-hoc analysis. The d-ROM and lactate, and glucose levels showed a significant difference among the time in all group, and showed significant difference among the group(respectively, p<.05). The BAP levels in RE group showd a significantly greater increase in exercise immediately than in rest, and showd a significantly greater increase in recovery 30 min than in rest(respectively, p<.05). In conclusion, we found that aerobic and resistance exercise activities are effective d-ROM, BAP and glucose, lactate levels in the blood. In particular, resistance exercise improved the antioxidant systems via select BAP.
