Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the association of fitness and metabolic syndrome (MS) risk f actors among male police officers in Korea from 20 12 to 20 14 year. A total o f 69 participated in the prospective study. We measured physical fitness (push-up, sit-up, and grasping-power), body mass index (BMI), and metabolic syndrome risk factors including fasting glucose, waist-circumference (WC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), blood pressure. Results showed that 1) male police officers in work inside significantly increased BMI, push-up, grasping power, and MS risk factors. 2) male police officers in work out side significantly increased fitness, and MS risk factors except for glucose. 3) male police officers in work inside significantly increased the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (work inside: 26.3%, p=0.001; work outside: 6.5%, p=0.161) compared to male police officers in work out side. In conclusion, This study showed that there are different values for metabolic syndrome risk factors according workstyle including work inside and work outside among Korean male police officers.
