- Abstract
- Pathological analysis of tissues acquired by a biopsy device determines the malignancy. A tissue sampling device such as the biopsy gun collects multiple samples from the different regions of the organ. Tissue sample collection after biopsy procedure is usually performed manually in non- MRI guided interventions. In this work, a multiple tissue sample collection device (MTSCD) is proposed for MRI guided prostate biopsy. The device is intended for any automatic or semi-automatic robotic manipulator performing biopsy in teleoperated mode. Similar to the manual procedure, multiple samples can be collected on the paper. The device integrates with a biopsy gun and sweeps the sample onto the paper automating the manual sample collection procedure. The device collects and stores the samples efficiently and securely between the double layer of the paper. In the future, the device will be integrated with a robotic system and the whole system is expected to decrease procedural time.
