음식의 문학적 재현을 중심으로 한 문화론적 시각의 소설교육 연구 -6･25 전쟁 체험 소설에 나타난 감정구조를 중심으로-(1)

Abstract

이 글은 한국 현대소설에 나타난 ‘음식의 문학적 재현’, 즉 음식 모티프를 중심으로 전개된 삶의 서사를 감정의 구조와 함께 문화론적 시각으로 살펴보고자 한 것이다. 이를 통하여 특정한 시대의 감정구조가 일상적 소재와 결합하여, 소설 전개에 끼치는 영향은 무엇인지 이해한다. 동시에 문화론적 시각을 함유한 소설교육의 실천 가능성을 제시하고, 소설독자인 학습자의 문학적 삶을 진작시키는 데 일조하고자 하는 목적을 지닌다. 이 글은 윌리엄스의 ‘감정의 구조’를 토대로 하여 6･25전쟁을 체험한 지식인 여성주체와 소년소녀의 성장주체의 감정 반응을 주목하였다. 전쟁을 통과하는 이들의 삶과 성장을 음식의 문학적 재현의 관점에서 살펴본 것이다. 6･25전쟁이 아직도 현재형으로 존재하는 우리의 역사적 상황을 고려할 때, 학습자들에게 문화론적 의미를 지니는 이 시대의 소설적 체험은 교육적 의미를 지닌다고 할 수 있다. 6･25 전쟁에 대한 문학적 인식을 작중인물의 감정과 음식과의 관계로 살펴보면, 지식인 여성주체의 경우, 1960년대 박경리의 ≪시장과 전장≫에서는 낭만적 특성을 보이는 여성의 혐오 감정, 70년대 박완서의 ≪나목≫에서는 절망감을 극복하려는 의지, 90년대의 ≪그 산이 정말 거기 있었을까≫에서는 증언적 주체가 겪는 수치의 감정과 인류애를 음식을 통해 드러내고 있다. 80년대 후일담 소설에서 드러난 소년소녀의 성장주체는 오정희의 ＜유년의 뜰＞을 주목할 수 있다. 이 작품은 궁핍한 환경에서 발생하는 감정보다 화자의 젠더의식에서 비롯된 연민과 수치의 감정이 부각되었으며, 이동하의 ≪장난감 도시≫, 김주영의 ≪고기잡이는 갈대를 꺾지 않는다≫에서는 소년들이 겪는 신체적･정서적 허기가 공포와 치욕의 감정을 수반한다는 것을 확인하였다.

This study set out to examine the narratives of life that developed around food motifs or “literary reproductions of food” in modern Korean novels in the viewpoint of cultural studies as well as the structure of feeling. It thus aimed to understand how the structure of feeling during a certain period as a junction would be combined with daily materials and what kind of effect it would have on the development of a novel, propose the practical possibilities of novel education in the viewpoint of cultural studies, and contribute to the facilitation of learners’ literary life as readers of novels. In the history of modern novels, food has been becoming a subject matter involved in the embodiment of a topic beyond a simple material, which is because food shares the same history as mankind, is in the most materialistic form directly connected to human survival, and has increased in symbolism. Based on the notion “structure of feeling” by Williams, the present study examined the structure of feeling among those who experienced the Korean War according to the social class, age, and gender mainly around the growth subjects of boys and girls and female intellectuals. The embodiment of their life and growth was examined from the perspective of the literary reproduction of food as they underwent the war. Given the nation’s historical situation in which the Korean War is not over yet, learners will find educational significance in their experiences with the period via novels. The study examined the literary perceptions of the Korean War based on relations between feeling and food. As for female intellectuals, Park Kyung-ni revealed hate against women with romantic characteristics in her The Market and the War Field published in the 1960s. In her autobiographic works A Thirsty Season and Was the Mountain Really There? published in the 1990s, she depicted women in whom shame was the dominant feeling as a testimonial subject. The author conveyed the situations and feelings of female intellectuals vividly via food. The growth subjects of boys and girls appeared in later-talked novels in the 1980s. In Lee Dong-ha’s A Toy City, Kim Ju-yeong’s A Fisher Never Breaks a Reed, and Kim Won-il’s A House with a Deep Yard, boys’ physical and emotional hunger was accompanied by the feelings of fear and humiliation. The Yard of Childhood by O Jeong-hee depicted the gender consciousness, compassion, and shame of girls.
