Abstract
In this study examined the needs of space planning for users of multimedia centers in public libraries. It analyzed digital users' needs for planning directions, spatial planning, required facilities, and reading materials of multimedia centers. Furthermore, the direction of spatial planning of multimedia centers is presented and user models for each type are derived. And detailed guidelines for the space planning of multimedia centers of public libraries were prepared in the future. First, users can be divided into digital first, second, and third generations depending on their age, and they are distributed in all indexes of talent, standard, general, and vulnerable types as a result of KDQ evaluation. It is important to establish a spatial planning model and prepare detailed guidelines for each type based on the needs of various users in multimedia centers. Second, multimedia center users demand more diverse experience in the multimedia center than demand for personal reading space, and an integrated space design is needed to encompass all users. Third, the demand for digital book cafes was the highest overall, and it can be seen that today's multimedia center users are demanding a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere rather than a rigid environment. Fourth, rather than responding that they wanted to read only digital materials, they were demanding that non-digital materials such as general books or periodicals be read together in space. This study investigated the needs of users according to generation and digital literacy so that public library multimedia centers can become user-centered spatial planning, and presented user models by type to provide a framework for detailed spatial planning guidelines.
