Abstract
Recently, the number of single families in Korean society is increasing due to family disintegration, divorce, separation, extended schooling and job-hunting period. With the increase of single family, the traditional single family mode limits people’s communication. Nowadays, there are many kinds of housing models, among which co-housing is the most typical, which plays a very good role in economy and communication. Therefore, this study collates the previous studies considering the characteristics of co-housing communication space of single family, and summarizes three characteristics: proximity, openness and interaction. Three medium-sized co-housing, which can accommodate 10-29 people, established in South Korea after 2015, are selected as the research objects to analyze the characteristics of co-housing communication space considering single family. The results show that the interaction is the highest, most of the cases provide enough space for communication. Through effective space configuration, residents can share information and have meals in the space, so that people’s relationship becomes closer, and the purpose of communication space is achieved. In some cases, the communication space is divided into different floors to form two communication spaces, but the good connection of the two communication spaces can not lead to weak proximity.
