- Abstract
- Euljiro is an area that has been vitalized rapidly. New cultural and commercial spaces based on a ‘retro’ concept have contributed to this revitalization of Euljiro. The use of emotional design forms a unique identity of Euljiro where tradition and novelty coexist, and transforms Euljiro into an exotic tourist destination from a backward industrial area. This study aims to understand the process of the regional revitalization in Euljiro and analyze the emotional design cases of cultural and commercial spaces in Euljiro. As a result, it is found that cultural and commercial spaces in Euljiro have four main features; the complex composition of programs, the utilization of visual and audio elements, the symbolized space identity, and the continuity with external environment. This study has its potentiality in the foundation of cultural and commercial revitalization plans for underdeveloped areas through emotional design.
