Abstract
The purpose of this research is to compare the energy consumption between two types of heat pump driven liquid desiccant(HPLD) systems, which are different in mechanism of controlling the desiccant solution. Design and operating strategy of the two HPLD systems for an apartment building were suggested. One HPLD system simultaneously controls the solution temperature and concentration at a single sump (Case 1), and the other HPLD system separately controls the solution temperature and concentration at a dual sump using simple additional devices (Case 2). Energy simulation for air conditioning in summer was conducted, and the results showed that Case 2 saved 77% of operating energy because the solution cooling and heating loads were decreased
