Abstract
In this research, we proposed a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS), which is integrated with a vacuum-based membrane dehumidifier (VMD). The main objective of this study is to evaluate the energy saving potential of VMD-DOAS, which is DOAS integrated with VMD. The proposed system is composed of a membrane energy exchanger (MEE), a dew point indirect evaporative cooler (DP-IEC), and VMD. The VMD has a characteristic that the dehumidification process conducts as an isothermal process, which is that the temperature change did not occur in the VMD. After the dry air is controlled by VMD, the DP-IEC operates to meet the target temperature (i.e., 17°C). The remaining sensible heat of the conditioned zone is deal with ceiling radiant cooling panel (CRCP). A load of condition zone was driven by TRANSYS 18 and engineering equation solver (EES) was used for evaluating the energy saving potential of the proposed system with CRCP comparing with variable air volume system. The results showed that the proposed DOAS with CRCP consumed 38% less operating energy consumption compared with the VAV system. The main energy saving potential of the proposed system was driven by reducing the dehumidification load and energy recovering by MEE.
