- Abstract
- Coupled shear wall systems are very efficient in resisting lateral forces induced by wind and earthquake loads. Recently, slender diagonally reinforced coupling (DRC) beams have been commonly used for coupled shear wall systems in high-rise building construction, which allows reduction of storey height and construction cost. The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of transverse reinforcement on the cyclic behaviour of slender DRC beams. For this purpose, experiments were conducted using three DRC specimens with various amounts of transverse reinforcement. An equation for accurately predicting the shear strength of slender DRC beams is proposed.
