- Abstract
- Containers which were viewed in the past as being dangerous are now receiving attention as container buildings capable of a variety of spatial uses. Containers have the advantage of reducing construction costs thanks to their simple construction and little material waste. Recent domestic container construction has made possible a variety of spatial uses including residential, industrial, and office space. The present study investigates the current status of container buildings through the case analysis of complex cultural spaces that use containers. The method of the study involves the examination of preceding studies, and the scope of the study elected four complex cultural facilities in Seoul, which were established after 2015. The study examines the concept of containers and complex cultural facilities through preceding studies. The study analyzes spatial composition and characteristics based on a framework of analysis. The results show, first, that the configuration method of container units are all a modified method of combined units. Second, the spatial configuration of complex cultural facilities complexly consist of sales, rest, and cultural spaces, but lack educational spaces. Third, complex cultural facilities display high accessability, complexity, and symbolism but scored the lowest in Functionality.
