- Abstract
- The marine bacterium Pelagibaca bermudensis and the potential biofuel algal strain Tetraselmis striata were co-cultivated under varying pH, salinity, temperature and light conditions, and compared with the Tetraselmis striata cultivated under axenic conditions. In all of the experimental sets, biomass and lipid production in the co-cultivated conditions were higher than the axenic conditions. There was multi-fold increase in growth promotion effect, with higher cell abundance under optimal conditions in presence of P. bermudensis, with ameliorated lipid productivity. Here, an abstract of a study by Patidar et al on an independent investigation of the effect of crude extracts containing metabolite and nutrients released by P. bermudensis on the microalgal cells that also exhibited elevated biomass and higher growth is presented.
