Abstract
This study suggested the design of thermoelectric modules (TEMs) integrated into liquid desiccant (LD) system with the analysis of energy potential. Two configurations for LD system were proposed so as to evaluate the applicability of TEMs in the LD system. In the first case, TEMs accommodate the whole solution heating loads and part of solution cooling loads with auxiliary chiller (i.e. Case A). In second case, only TEMs were used for cooling and heating loads of solution with water-cooled unit at the hot side (i.e. Case B). The energy simulation was conducted for each case to estimate the energy consumption and COP with temperature variation of solution. Results showed that the case A provides averaged 2 % of energy saving compared with the conventional LD system, while there is no benefit of energy saving in case B. However, it was proved that the possibility of applying TEMs in the LD system for simplifying the system and not using refrigerant.
