Abstract
The objective of this study is to evaluate the hysteretic behavior of slender diagonally reinforced coupling beams and to simplify the reinforcement details of diagonally reinforced coupling beam by reducing the transverse reinforcement around the beam perimeter that is required for the confinement of diagonally reinforced coupling beam. Experiments were conducted using two diagonally reinforced concrete coupling beams with aspect ratio of 3.5 under reversed cyclic loads. Test results show that slender diagonally reinforced coupling beam specimens with 100% and 50% of the amount of transverse bars required by current design provisions had satisfactory deformation and strength capacities
