Abstract
Soles and thighs are subject to compressive load as sitting or standing due to gravity forces. Therefore, the mechanical behavior of skin in compression have to be considered in human analytical model. However, studies on them are rarely done compared to studies on skin behavior under tension. The purpose of this study is to measure dynamic stiffness and loss factor of human skin and muscle under compression, and to validate the results using pendulum test of human limb. Ballistic gelatin and porcine skin and muscle are used for specimens. Measurement using the vibration interaction in the compliantly supported beam were performed. Pendulum tests and their simulation were performed for validation. Skin and muscle are modeled as Kelvin-Voight model, and stiffness and damping coefficient for the model were used from the measurement. In conclusion, the methods of measuring dynamic stiffness and loss factor of muscles and skin, and validation using pendulum tests are useful to estimate the viscoelastic properties of human muscles and skin.
