- Abstract
- The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the characteristics and the performances of dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) and desiccant-enhanced evaporative air conditioner (DEVap). The systems take two different air handling strategies. DOAS, mainly used for enhancing indoor air quality and humidity rate, is compromised of constant flow air handling unit and additional parallel cooling system. On the other hand, DEVap takes advantages of liquid desiccant system and regenerative indirect evaporative cooler with variable air flow rate. Although DOAS and DEVap are different in terms of their system compositions and the mode of operations, performance comparison of the systems is necessary to investigate more effective and energy conservative system. The primary energy as well as cooling and dehumidification capacities of two systems during summer season are analyzed through computer simulation with a commercial equation solver and a TRNSYS 17 program. As a result, DOAS conserved up to 61% of the primary energy and showed better cooling and dehumidification performance than DEVap.
