- Abstract
- The Korean building code requires to meet 0.5 ACH ventilation to improve indoor air quality in residential buildings since 2006, thereafter mechanical ventilation system has come into wide use in most of new constructed residential buildings. The regulation fulfills the primary objective of ventilation which is providing healthy indoor environments but it seems uncertain if occupants are satisfied with the environment. Thus ventilation behaviour-based system design is required to enhance occupants’ satisfaction. To evaluate factors causing occupants to ventilate, this study conducted measurements and surveys targeting residential building occupants. Indoor air temperature, humidity, CO2, particle mass and concentration for indoor environment and air temperature and humidity for outdoor environments were measured from 21st of February to 16th of May 2014 when outdoor temperature changes sharply. Furthermore solar radiation, outdoor humidity, outdoor wind speed and rainfall are acquired from the Korea Meteorological Administration. As a result of logistic regression analysis using the acquired data, outdoor air temperature and indoor CO2 concentration are shown as the most influential factors causing occupants to perform ventilation.
