Abstract
This paper summarizes experience and results collected by the authors in the process of developing and testing physics models related to Geant4, and discusses them in the context of establishing a common epistemology and openly available tools for the validation of the physics implemented in Monte Carlo particle transport codes. It reviews basic concepts pertinent to the validation of the physics of Monte Carlo transport systems, and discusses the interplay between software design and the test process. It illustrates some recent results in the validation of Geant4 electromagnetic physics and elucidates the methodology enabling their achievement.
