Abstract
Since it is difficult to measure muscle or joint forces in human body, biomechanical models are often used to predict those forces. Commercial biomechanical software has been also developed. With those software, it is possible to perform inverse dynamic analysis by using motion capture data. Through inverse dynamic analysis, it can be obtained that driving torque, change of muscle length, kinematic data of segments, etc. However, it is impossible to predict muscle forces by using commercial software at this time. Muscle force predicted using commercial software is often different with experimental results. Therefore, in this study, we perform inverse dynamic analysis only. By using data obtained from inverse dynamic analysis, we predict lower extremity muscle forces when walking. Muscle forces are determined by minimizing the metabolic energy consumption during walking.
