Abstract
Vibration analysis of a functionally graded beam with pre-twisted shape and tapered cross-section is studied in this paper. The beam has a rectangular cross-section and is mounted on a rotating rigid hub. Functionally graded material (FGM) properties are considered along the height direction of the beam according to the power-law form. The pre-twist angle and tapered cross-section area increase or decrease linearly along the length direction of the beam. The equations of stretching and bending motion are derived by Kane’s method employing hybrid deformation variables. To validate the derived equations, natural frequencies of an FG beam are compared to those obtained by a commercial software ANSYS. The effects of the pre-twisted angle, taper ratio, hub radius, volume fraction exponent, and angular speed on the vibration characteristics of the system are investigated with the proposed model.
