- Abstract
- The purpose of the present study is to overview the domestic research trend of content-based English instruction for the last 18 years from 1994 to 2012. It first found out that the numbers of immersion-related studies were the greatest among content-based English instruction types. For successful Immersion education, it also suggested that teachers' English competence is the most important factor and also that partial immersion should be implemented. Second, however, the subject-based model integrating a subject with English was most widely implemented in reality. Such integrative classes mostly improved student English skills and content knowledge. On the bases of these results, this study suggests that integrating English with a subject will be more promising and desirable to implement in Korea for the time being than general partial immersion programs. From these findings, some suggestions are made for improving subject-based English instruction in Korea.
