- Abstract
- The FCW (Forward Collision Warning) and AEB (Autonomous Emergency Brake) systems need to predict the collision time accurately for system operation. In this study, the vehicle stopping distance is used to determine the collision time. The stopping distance can be calculated using the kinematic equation relating the acceleration and velocity. The key idea of the proposed algorithm is to estimate the stopping distance of the forward vehicle, because the motion of the forward vehicle affects the collision time between the subject and the forward vehicles. The estimated stopping distance is used to determine the operational time of FCW and AEB systems. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified in simulations.
