Abstract
This paper presents a new design method of interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor for high efficiency with considering the motor losses and the demagnetization of magnet. The thermal-magnetic coupled analysis is performed to calculate the heat source such as copper loss and iron loss and consider the temperature-dependent property of magnet. The optimization problem is formulated to minimize losses which are calculated by input current and fluctuation of magnetic flux density, as well as maximize the output torque. Level set based topology optimization is employed to obtain an innovative shape of stator teeth and flux barrier in the rotor because the magnetic and thermal characteristics of motor are quite sensitive to the shape of ferromagnetic material. A design example of IPM motor with Nd-type magnet which is demagnetized on high temperature is provided to confirm the usefulness of the proposed method.
