- Abstract
- Tsunami damage has occurred in the eastern coast of the Korean Peninsula by earthquakes occurred in the East Sea near the western coast of Japan. Because the 2011 East Japan tsunami brought enormous damage, the hazard of tsunami received attention all over the world. Thus, Tsunami disaster measures are required to mitigate damages caused by tsunami. Recently the tsunami disaster measures have been studied in Korea, and a tsunami hazard map is utilized as one of the tsunami disaster measures. Because the tsunami hazard map does not require large scale construction and destruction of the environment, it is a very costless and effective method to save lots of people. To develop the tsunami hazard map an inundation map produced by numerical simulation is used. The inundation map is obtainable from a synthesis of inundated districts for each tsunami event. The tsunami sources consist of historical and virtual tsunami events. To improve the accuracy of simulation output, the propagation characteristics of distant tsunami that it can be occurred in the East Sea are considered in numerical model.
