- Abstract
- Recently, cooperative vehicle safety applications based on V2V and V2I communications have rapidly emerged as a new solution to reduce car accident rates and improve driver safety. However, due to the difficulty in installing the vehicle driving conditions and communication environments on-road in the real world, it is hard to evaluate the performance and characteristics of new technologies in V2V and V2I. In this paper, we propose a new V2X integrated runtime simulation framework based on a virtual reality simulation environment to evaluate and develop communication protocols and vehicle safety services. The simulator implements the functions of the IEEE 802.1Ip standard protocol stack and realistic propagation models that are generally adopted in recent research on vehicular communication technologies. In this paper, we show that the proposed simulation framework can provide performance evaluation functions mat actually measure the network performance among new different safety application technologies without the need for real-field operational testing.
