Abstract
The paradigm of urban planning is changing because of recognition of the planning process based on the resident’s participation. The resident participation maintenance projects results in improvement of the residential environment and enhancement of a sense of residents’ participation. Residents of capacity have been strengthened by the repetition of the resident participation, and importance of social capital has been increasing. Accordingly, research on the relationship between resident participation and social capital has increased. In this study, an impact of resident activities on social capital is analyzed by the regional pilot project in the Urban Regeneration Agency. Components on resident activities are informal day-to-day activities and formal planned activities, and those on social capital are trust, participation, intimacy, and a sense of community. The analysis demonstrates that informal daily activities affect trust, participation, intimacy, and a sense of community and formal planned activities have an influence on trust, participation, and intimacy, but not a sense of community. Formal daily activities influence on formation of social capital more than informal planned activities. Therefore, if we can understand daily activities of residents and the relationship of neighbors, and find a participatory method of residents on a resident participation project, project progress and formation of social capital will be more effective.
