Abstract
This study evaluates the seismic performance of existing school structures which are not built based on earthquake resistant design. For this objective, the study analyzes the structural properties and problems that the existing school has. For seismic performance evaluation, an analytical model describing its behavior as well as ATC-63 method are used in the study. Also, inelastic static and dynamic analyses are performed. The analytical results show that shear failure which occurs in a column considerably reduces the seismic performance of the building such as lateral resistance and drift capacity masonry due to the short column effect of infilled wall. It is concluded that the collapse probability of the building under maximum considered earthquake is from 62.9 percent to 99.5 percent, which indicates that the existing school building may be significantly damaged when earthquake generates
