- Abstract
- In this paper, the acoustical properties of vegetation including ground surfaces were investigated in the laboratory to establish a database for urban soundscape modeling. Specimens of vegetation were selected in consideration of the actual construction conditions commonly encountered in urban spaces. Flow resistivity was obtained according to ISO 9053, and sound absorption coefficients in the normal incidence condition were measured (using impedance tube), and in the random incidence condition (in a reverberation room) both in accordance with ISO 354. Furthermore, scattering coefficients were measured using a turntable in a reverberation room according to ISO 17497-1. Measured acoustical properties of vegetation were used to create scale model reproductions. Finally, the reproductions were measured to verify the match to real vegetation in terms of acoustical properties.
