- Abstract
- Objective of this study is to design a simple multiband band coplanar waveguide frequency reconfigurable antenna using PIN diodes for cognitive radio applications. This paper employs the simulation and fabrication approach. The simulations are carried out on CST microwave studio. The optimized parameters are achieved by modelling the antenna with the PIN diodes in the circuit environment of the microwave studio. The optimized parameters are then used to fabricate the antenna after which measurements are carried out. The measured results are compared with the simulated results; it is observed that the measured results agree with the simulated results. In addition, four switching modes are achieved at the operating frequencies of 3.0, 3.3, 4.2, 5.0 and 5.5 GHz, making the antenna suitable for wireless applications such as cognitive radio. A simple small size coplanar waveguide antenna which is suitable for cognitive radio applications is presented in this paper.
