누이의 죽음, 잔영, 그리움

Abstract

한양대학교 국어국문학과 시간강사攀攀이 글은 한국문학사에 있어 오뉘 형상의 변천과 지속을 검토한 것이다. 논의의 출발을 위해, 죽은 누이를 그리는 박지원이덕무박제가 세 사람의 글을 분석했다. 세 편 글은 지극히 개인적 체험에서 비롯된 것임에도 불구하고, 한국문학사의 보편적인 정서를 공유하고 있는 것처럼 느껴진다. 아주 흔히 한국적인 정서로 일컬어지면서도 그 실체가 규명되지 않은, 이 막연한 느낌을 해명하는 것이 본고의 목적이다. 이를 위한 기초 작업으로, 몇 편 설화의 분석에서 드러난 오뉘 관계가 지닌 원초적 친연성을 원용했고, 또 조선후기 가족제도의 변화에 대한 논의도 끌어왔다. 결과 세 편의 글에 공통적으로 나타나는 ‘누이의 혼인’에는 일종의 상실감 또는 분리감이 내재되어 있으며, 이것이 세 편 글의 비애감을 증폭시키는 역할을 한다고 판단했다. 또 그러한 미감의 지속성을 확인하기 위해 1920년대의 시 세 편, 그리고 1950년대와 1970년대의 시도 각각 한 편씩 분석했다. 이를 통해 막연하게 전통적인 정서로 일컬어져왔던 ‘누이에 대한 그리움’이 한국의 특수한 역사 속에서 배태, 탄생, 변모되어 왔음을 입증할 수 있었다. 다만 이 문제는, 종적인 차원에서 더 많은 역사적 사례들을 촘촘하게 분석하고, 횡적인 차원에서는 사회학심리학인류학 등의 도움을 입어야만 설득력을 높일 수 있을 것으로 보아, 결론은 잠정적인 가설의 상태로 남겨두었다.

This study examined the changes and continuity in brother-and-sister relationships in Korean Literature. To begin the discussion, I analyzed literature pieces of Ji Won Park, Deok Mu Lee, and Je Ga Park that depict their late sisters. These three pieces are based on personal experiences, but tend to share the general emotion of Korean Literature. The purpose of his study is to clarity this vague feeling that is often considered Korean but not very specific. I used the basic intimacy of brother-and-sister relationships which I had found from the analysis of several old stories and the discussion on changes in family system in the late Joseon Dynasty. All three pieces I examined showed the feeling of loss and detachment for 'sister's marriage' and this feeling amplified the writers' grief in these three pieces. I also analyzed three poems from the 1920s and one poem each from the 1950s and 1970s to identify the continuity of such feeling. By doing so, I could prove that 'longing for sisters,' which has been the traditional emotion of Korea, has emerged and changed in interaction with Korea's unique history. However, the conclusion needs to be made after analyzing more historical records and finding supportive materials from the fields of sociology, psychology, and humanity. This study left his findings as a hypothesis.
